Friday Class at Elvaston

Here's one of the projects we will be making on Friday, it's a chalkboard effect card with a faux wooden frame.

I thought it would be perfect for my lovely husband but some friends spied it today and think it would be perfect in a clear frame as a christmas decoration. Either way it feels good to do a Christmas card with non-traditional colours.

Blog Hopping

A few of my fellow Stampin' Up! demos are linking our blogs to share our  projects inspired by the latest Autumn /Winter catalogue. Just click on the link at the bottom of this post to get to the next blog and you've hopped from Joyce's blog, welcome to mine!

Here's my contribution, its a card I made for one of my monthly classes in Derby. I've used the Joyful Christmas set, a small strip of Seasons of Style patterned paper, a wide rickrack in Cherry Cobbler cut from the Bigz XL Tasteful Trim die, crumb cake embossed with the Pretty Print folder and finally the tag cut using a Chalk Talk framelit .

Stamp two pointsettia flowers in Versamark, heat emboss in white and then coat the flowers in White Craft Ink using a water brush. After they are dry, cut out the two layers, colour the petals with  Real Red & Cherry Cobbler Stampin Write markers & use a blender pen to give some depth.  All there is left to do is tie a little Linen thread around the tag & assemble the flower with a few Dimensional foam pads.

I hope you like the card, who knows you might be receiving one in a couple of months! If you do like it why not pop back and see what else I've been making.

Dusting off the brayer

Don't you love rediscovering things / techniques / tools that you've had for ages and then suddenly they seem to crop up everywhere. My list this month includes vellum which is perfect for christmas cards, corner rounders which I think has something to do with the popularity of Project Life cards and using a Brayer.  I'd forgotten how much satisfaction there is in starting with a blank piece of white card and transforming it with just a few sweeps of an inky brayer.

Here's a quick brayered card I made with a selection of inks, a piece of scrap paper and a circle punch. The flowers are from the Best Of Flowers set.

It really is an easy card to make.  Flicking through Impressions, the magazine that Stampin' Up! send to demonstrators, I came across an article on ghosting using the white Craft ink. I put the two techniques together to come up with this brayered Christmas card that we made at this month's class at Elvaston, Derby.

At last....New Seasonal Catalogue.

I'm not an Autumn /Winter person, it signals the end of summer holidays spent with the family, lazy evenings, chatting with friends in the garden and I really do feel like I need a daily dose of seeing lots of green, flowers, blue skies & sun.

It's not all doom & gloom though, when its cold, damp & gloomy outside I don't feel guilty retreating to my cosy craft room.  So tomorrow when the kids are back at school, I'll be snuggling down with a Skinny Latte and a copy of the new Autumn /Winter Catalogue.

I'll be flicking through the pages, planning all those little projects to keep me going until Spring arrives.

Thinking of Christmas? You need the new 'Best of' stamp set

Stampin' Up! have once again come up with a must-have set, this time for Christmas, not only that but there's only 3 days to wait before you can order from the new Autumn /Winter catalogue too.

Free pack of Designer Series paper

If you were thinking of adding some of the new gorgeous Designer Series Paper packs from the new Annual catalogue to your collection, now might be the right time. The buy 3 get 1 free offer is on until the end of the month.

August's newest stamp set - Best of Shelli

As with all the other 'Best of' sets, this will be available until 31st March 2014.

Crafting on Holiday

Do you take a project on holiday with you? It's part of my packing ritual to imagine all that spare time I'll have on balmy evenings, glass of something chilled in hand and to plan to finish some project that's been hanging around for ages. I am always grateful for my lovely DH's minimal approach to his holiday wardrobe so there's always space to hide a few bits & pieces.

That's the plan. The reality is that my carefully thought out kit is rarely touched, balmy evenings, BBQ's, meeting friends and the Spanish way of late evenings for the whole family all take precedence over a bit of crafty time. But I'd hate to come without, I might need it sometime!

Last class from the 2012-13 catalogue

Thanks again to the lovely ladies who come to my class at Elvaston. They always put a smile on my face. I had this one planned for ages as I really thought The Best of Everything set would carry on into the next catalogue. As usual I was thwarted so this was its first & last outing!

We made a cute Birdhouse style box card which can be tied with ribbon to keep its box shape, stood with its doors open so you can read the greeting & see the beautiful stamping and best of all, folded flat for posting.

The little bluebell flowers are so easy to make with the Itty Bitty punches and they also make lots of other cute little flowers,  it's going to be difficult NOT to put them onto every card. The colours are Wisteria Wonder and Pool Party, inspired by the view out of my craft room window.

I've just taken this photo but the pale forget-me-nots seem to have disappeared.

One at a time, please!

I've only been away for a weekend but so much is happening. Next bit of news is that you now buy a selection of Single Stamps. Just like 'The Best of" sets, these are only available in clear mount and for a limited time until 31 August .

Unlike the sets, these Single Stamps come cello-wrapped rather than the clear cases, however if you wish you can always order them too (Item 119105 Four Clear-mount Stamp Cases).

Celebrating the Best of Stampin' Up!

This year is Stampin' Up!'s  25-year anniversary and to celebrate they are bringing back some of our all-time favourite stamp images from the last quarter century and combining them into five sets, which will be released, one set per month—until October 2013.

Every month, something new!
Each stamp set will have 3-5 images based around a theme and along with some great classics which you may remember, the “Best of” set will also include a never-before-seen image!

All Best of stamp sets are in Clear-Mount only and will be just £13.95. All of the Best of sets will be available until March 31, 2014.

This month we are celebrating the Best of Flowers,

Talented customers

I love seeing what my friends make with their Stampin' Up! goodies that they kindly let me supply.  From cards to little thank you notes, I just had to share their talents with you.

So here's a Thank you from me to Barbara, Josie & Jude xxxx

I love Betsy!

I mentioned in February that it was still a bit wintery, boy I never guessed one month closer to Summer (I am an optimist after all) we would be having Weather Warnings and making snowmen. But at least its a good excuse to stay inside in the warmth playing with stamps & inks rather than weeding the garden.

The Betsy's Blossom set has been really easy to use, I have loved everything I've made with it, the problem this time was deciding what to leave out of the class. I am always amazed what a lovely bunch of people crafting attracts and the ladies who join me for the Elvaston class really are no exception!  I think they love Betsy as as much as I do.

Here's some more...

Friday Class at Elvaston

Just a quick reminder that I will be at Elvaston village Hall, Derby on Friday. The class is 12:30 to 2:30 and this month we will be saying goodbye to winter with Betsy's Blossom's!

If you would like to join me, I'd love to hear from you.

Tuesday, 5 February 2013

Come & join in!

Every month I will be at Elvaston Village Hall holding a 2 hour papercraft workshop 12:30 - 2:30. The cost is just £10 and the dates are as follows: Friday 8th Feb, Friday 8th March, Friday 19th April, Friday 10 May, Friday 7th June and Friday 12th July.

Please let me know if you would like to come and join the fun.

The February workshop is focussed on the You are Loved stamp set (123779) which is on page 24 of the annual catalogue.

It’s a fabulous set perfect for Valentines but for so many occasions too, such as birthdays, anniversaries & weddings. I love that the greetings can be used for friends and not just our nearest & dearest.

The colours we will use are inspired by the NEW More Amore Speciality Designer Series paper. Basic Black, Pool Party, Pink Pirouette, Primrose Petals, Real Red & Crumb Cake (not on the papers but is incredibly versitile).

As a demo for Stampin Up, I am lucky to be able to get my hands on things early, naturally I can't tell you what they are until launch day BUT I can share projects I make with them. See if you can spot what's new on this card I made for one of the lovliest people I know!
